During the 31st Assembly of the International Seabed Authority (ISA) in Kingston, Jamaica, Qatar reiterated its endorsement of the ISA and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). Omar Ali Al Ali, who serves as the Secretary of Qatar’s Standing Committee of the Convention on the Law of the Sea, represented the nation at the assembly. He underscored the critical need to balance the sustainable use of marine resources with the preservation of marine ecosystems.

Al Ali emphasized the importance of fostering greater dialogue and transparency among member states. He advocated for credible scientific research and comprehensive environmental assessments to bolster decision-making processes within the ISA. His statements reflect Qatar’s ongoing commitment to responsible stewardship of marine resources.

Qatar’s representative also highlighted the nation’s dedication to collaborating with other member states to support the ISA’s mission. The ISA is tasked with overseeing the management of international seabed resources, ensuring they are utilized in accordance with international law and for the greater good of humanity.

In reaffirming its support, Qatar stresses the need for a collective approach to managing the world’s seabeds. The country’s stance aligns with global efforts to ensure that the exploration and utilization of seabed resources do not come at the expense of marine environments. This commitment is crucial as countries navigate the complexities of marine resource management in a rapidly changing world.
