Iran has been advocating for increased control over the shipping lanes of the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting measures such as transit tolls and directing maritime traffic through specific routes. However, these proposals have met with strong opposition from the United States. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Washington would not concede to any Iranian control over commercial shipping access through the strait. President Donald Trump has also kept pressure on Iran concerning its stockpile of highly enriched uranium.
