On Sunday, Qatar took part in significant regional health discussions during the 89th Gulf Health Council meeting and the 12th GCC Health Ministers’ Committee meeting, both held in Manama, Bahrain. The gathering saw the participation of Qatar’s delegation, led by Minister of Public Health Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud, focusing on enhancing cooperation in the health sector among Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
A key focus of the meetings was the review of the Gulf Health Council’s budget for 2027 and the planned initiatives, alongside the development of a strategic action plan for the years 2026 to 2030. These discussions are part of broader efforts to ensure that the region’s health agendas are aligned and effectively funded, aiming to address current and future health challenges collaboratively.
Strategic decisions were also on the table, particularly concerning the storage and management of essential supplies such as food and medicines, which are critical for the region’s resilience. Health examinations for expatriate workers were another important topic of discussion, reflecting the GCC’s commitment to maintaining health standards and safety for its diverse workforce.
In addition to these priorities, the meetings addressed the Gulf Strategy for Combating Drugs, covering the years 2025 to 2028. Plans to establish a Gulf Centre for Food Risk Assessment were also reviewed, signaling a proactive approach to food safety and risk management in the region. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to safeguard the public health of GCC countries.
Finally, officials took stock of the progress made on the resolutions passed during the previous GCC Health Ministers’ Committee meeting. This reflective approach ensures that commitments are being met and that the health sector’s collaborative efforts continue to move forward effectively.
