Qatar is urging stronger global cooperation to enhance sustainable development, emphasizing the need to advance the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda. Speaking at a high-level meeting in New York focused on the Global Development Initiative, Qatar’s Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, underscored the pressing challenges faced by developing nations. These include financial and debt pressures, food and energy insecurity, climate change, and the digital divide.
The minister stressed that sustainable and inclusive development is crucial for achieving long-term peace, stability, and prosperity. She called for increased international efforts to close the development financing gap and to allocate more resources to developing countries, especially those categorized as the least developed.
Qatar highlighted the importance of enhanced commitments to development finance, climate action, and reforming the international financial system to better support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals by developing countries. Al Misnad pointed out the potential of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in supporting sustainable development but warned that unequal access to these technologies could exacerbate existing disparities. To counter this, she advocated for greater cooperation in technology transfer, scientific research, innovation, and digital skill development.
Reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development, Qatar showcased its National Vision 2030 and international partnerships. The country noted its efforts to support initiatives in poverty reduction, education, food security, healthcare, and resilience-building in vulnerable nations.
Qatar’s call to action highlights the need for a collective global response to address the multifaceted challenges impeding sustainable development, urging nations to collaborate more effectively in order to achieve shared goals for a more equitable future.
